The coffee shops are quiet and downtown Des Moines isn't clogged with satellite news trucks, but the Iowa caucuses are right around the corner.
That's right, the 2006 caucuses — scheduled for Jan. 16 — are approaching, much more quietly than their presidential election-year counterparts, but with potentially decisive significance for the vast field of Democrats running for governor.
