Clinging to their home, settlers 'try not to think of the end' view story
Sunday, May 15, 2005
David Goldman - - Boston Herald
| With its paved streets, stucco homes and the occasional manicured lawn, this community of 60 families looks like a peaceful Southern California suburb - until you look up.
Each settlement in Gush Katif has its own gated entry guarded by armed Israeli soldiers. The settlers live behind two fences - one electrified, one of barbed wire. Security cameras scan the perimeter at night. Every settler is issued an M-16 by the army, and most have personal sidearms and bulletproof vests.
